In recent years he has been responsible for a number of significant reattributions, most notably in the collections of the Royal Irish Yacht Club and the Office of Public Works, Ireland. For his work in portraiture, he received the Adams Award at the Royal Hibernian Academy in 2011 and was shortlisted for the AIB Portrait Prize at the National Gallery of Ireland in 2024. Hayes is represented by the Gorry Gallery, Dublin, and is currently building towards his first solo exhibition, scheduled for the spring of 2026.
